Grading Scale:   A >= 90%;   B>= 80%;   C >= 70%;   D >= 60%

Your grade in the course is calculated according to the following ~1,000 point distribution1:

60% - (600/1000 points) - Tests and Quizzes: 3 tests, random quizzes

  • Two 180 point tests, one 240 point cumulative final. Make-up test only given with prior notice and excuse.
  • Various 5-10 point unannounced quizzes, no make-up. Points in lieu of points on next test.
      Example: If we had two 5 point quizzes before test 1, test 1 would have 170 points rather than 180 points.

40% - (400/1000 points) - Assignments: programs and occasional problem sets

  • ~5 to ~8 programs. Points per program vary from 25 - 100.
  • Programs will have different point totals depending on difficulty.
  • May earn bonus points in this category, but can not exceed 400 point total.

2% overall bonus - (20 possible bonus points) - Attendance & Participation: attend, ask/answer questions, take notes.

  • 1 bonus point per class (up to 20 points). There are 42 classes (mwf) per semester.
  • Bonus BEGINS accumulating after 21 classes attended.
  • Must attend to get bonus. Excused absences do not earn bonus.
  • If I am absent, you will be counted as attending.
      Example: You attend 39 classes. 39-21 = 18 bonus points.
      Example: You attend 31 classes. 31-21 = 10 bonus points.

1.   1,000 points distributed as stated is the goal, but I reserve the right to make small adjustments to the points as needed to accomodate special situations throughout the semester. The percentages (60/40/2) will remain the same however.
